Expanded in-house traffic reporting is key element of new 4-hour
Morning News
On September 15, WXMI-TV
Fox 17 launched its expanded Fox 17 Morning News, delivering four hours of
local programming weekdays from 5-9am.
To meet a key need of its morning viewers, WXMI recognized the need to
develop market-leading traffic reporting capabilities.
News Director Tim
Dye appointed Robb Westaby, a well-known radio
veteran of 34 years, to take the lead as Fox 17's traffic reporter. To support in-house traffic reporting, the
WXMI team selected the
award-winning Beat The Traffic solution,
providing comprehensive road speeds and travel times, accidents,
incidents, events and forecasts for the entire market and commuting area.
"In my years as a traffic reporter, I have sought to relate traffic
flow instead of doing a list of accidents. Beat the Traffic helps me do that
quickly and effectively for television viewers”, Westaby said. He set out to showcase traffic flow reports,
not just fender benders, to help viewers quickly see problems and better
routes.
“It is important for
us to quickly deliver real traffic news to help our viewers plan their days and
reduce time spent stuck in traffic” says Dye. “We have been pleased with the
on-air look of the 'Beat the Traffic' system and the 'Beat the Traffic' support
staff has been very willing to work with our Station to maximize the on-air
presentation.”
“We are proud to support
